Pinecrest 5th graders celebrated their completion of the Liberty's Legacy program by honoring local heroes. After learning about what it takes to become a Super Citizen, students were asked to nominate and vote on the school and community heroes they wanted to honor. This year's 5th graders selected school secretary, Brittany Hardy and assistant principal, Jodi Shaw as their community heroes.

Pinecrest and Indian Valley students filled the Pinecrest Elementary School Gymnasium on Tuesday, January 30, 2024. After finishing ten weeks in the Super Citizen Program, they are gathered to celebrate their accomplishments and honor local heroes. They chose heroes who embodied the traits of amazing citizens and read essays from the stage before presenting them with Authentic Liberty Replicas & Liberty Pins. The students learned that “when you honor a hero, you become a hero!” To see more images from the event, visit https://bit.ly/SCSLiberty

Message from Sylacauga Little League Girls Softball

Students in Miss Welch and Mrs. Rivers' class spent last week learning about Martin Luther King, Jr. They read library books about his life and created art for a beautiful hall display.

SCS will be back to regular school hours tomorrow. If you previously opted out of receiving alert messages and would like to receive them again, text START to 98900.

SCS will operate on a two-hour delay on Wednesday, January 17, 2024

Due to the threat of severe weather, specifically, straight-line winds causing downed trees and powerline outages on Friday, January 12th, all school buildings will be closed, and students will transition to remote learning. All after-school activities are also cancelled.
Schools will be closed Monday, January 15 for the Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday.
We will continue to monitor the weather for Tuesday and will keep you posted if anything changes to the school day schedule.

Important message from SCS schools~

Mrs. Spates' classes had the opportunity last week to review lines of symmetry in the real world. Students used the alphabet to determine how many lines of symmetry each of the letters have. The students worked in pairs to group the letters under 3 categories: no lines of symmetry, one line of symmetry, and more than one line of symmetry.

Nacho Day is this Friday, January 5. Students can pay $5 for nachos and a bottle of water.

Pinecrest Elementary School received a "B" on the Alabama State Report Card, which was released earlier this week. The score is calculated from the following:
* Academic achievement on the ACAP
* Academic growth from one academic year to the next for grades (2nd grade - 4th grade)
* Chronic absenteeism (students that are absent 18 or more days count against the school)
Congratulations to the students, teachers, staff, and administration on your hard work.

Sylacauga City Schools will have E-learning days on December 14 and 15 due to an increase in health-related absences.
